Password-protect a Subdomain with Plesk
My design and development business, Boston Web Studio, uses the Plesk Control Panel to manage its web hosting account. While Plesk has served me well for years, it does have one shortcoming that baffles me and many other folks: it doesn’t make it easy to password-protect a subdomain. It does provide an easy way to password-protect directories under the root domain and it also provides an easy way to create subdomains, yet it doesn’t combine these two features; if I want to password-protect a subdomain, I have to do it manually, and that means poking around my web server using a command-line interface.
Boston Web Studio Update & The Build Guild
It’s been a little more than two months since I left my job and started working for myself and if the lack of writing here isn’t a sign of my free time gone out the window, I don’t know what is. It’s been great, though, really… really really. I lined up work with a handful of companies; my last employer, Digital Bungalow, kept me busy for the first month; I earned some retainer work from Mass High Tech and recently launched their Women to Watch mini-site; a couple of friends in the industry were kind enough to hire me for some xhtml/css work they couldn’t fit into their schedules; there are a couple of new opportunities that will flush themselves out over the next couple of weeks… I’m a fortunate person, undoubtedly.
Project Launched & Brief Update
My small web business, Boston Web Studio, just launched its latest client project and, needless to say, I’m a proud papa.
Please Welcome, Boston Web Studio
Please join me in saying, to me, you’re crazy.
“You’re crazy.”
Right, thank you, I know.
Five days ago, on May 1st, I officially joined the ranks of millions, (or the very high hundreds), of other self-employed men and women in our great state of Massachusetts. After a little more than two years working for a marvelous local agency called Digital Bungalow, I’ve made the leap to self-employment and started my own teeny-tiny business called Boston Web Studio.
Receiving Unique Payments with PayPal
My small design and development gig, Boston Web Studio, has been creating websites for small-business owners since January, 2005. In the three years that have passed, I’ve never once been asked if I can take a credit card for payment on an invoice I’ve sent to a client. It has always been a check or cash transaction and I’ve given little thought to receiving any other form of payment. Last month, however, three separate clients asked me whether or not I could take a credit card. I had to answer “No,” but I told each of them that I would make it possible, and soon. In my opinion, making it easier for a client to pay you money owed is never a bad thing.
